Artist Statement

I was raised in a place known for its photographers--Duesseldorf, Germany. Perhaps some of the

city's passion for the craft eeped into me as a child, although I really became focused on photography

about 10 years ago. As a new transplant to Boston and embarking on my industrial design career

at the consultancy IDEO, I purchased my first professional camera in 2000. I haven't put it down since.

The city and places around me provide endless inspiration and I consider my work in the genre of street

photography. I love capturing those "decisive moments" where individuals intersect with their urban

enviroment in captivating ways, and I often try to express a sense of humor through these images.

The attributes I strive for in my design work--simplicity, pattern, alignment--are what I go out looking

for with my camera. As for format, I love to explore different ones for my work. I've used larger

film formats up to 5x7 and 8x10 and I recently added medium-format digital technology to my repertoire,

as I love the high amount of detail it gives me.
