Here is a quick experiment. Last week I walked around Boston during a sunny day. Often the light is very strong, creating harsh contrast and washed out colors. While walking around everything looked fine through my Ray-Bans. But once I took them off to take some shots I saw the glare und almost unmanageable contrast in the light. Afternoon photography works much better. So I thought “Why not use the Ray-Ban as a filter”. I took a set of images with the sunglasses slightly away from the lens so that it only covered the center of the image. Personally I like the outcome. Fun.
It highlights the activity in the center, almost like white vignetting, and it plays with the colors and contrast. One thing it reminded me of is that photography is all about experimenting. If something doesn’t work the way intended, try something else. It may look stupid in the beginning, but many styles were created out of early mistakes. Shooting through the sunglasses may not be anything new, but to me it was a fun discovery and distraction.
I used my M240 and composed on the screen to see exactly what the lens, a 35mm Summilux, was seeing.

How creative! It looks like a lot of fun and I am going to try it. I also shoot with the 240 but will have to use my 28mm.
